Ray Larsen

We've all heard the phrase "some days the trumpet wins". Since picking up a Thane trumpet, I don’t feel that way anymore — this horn seems to read my mind and work with me like a true teammate, an extension of my own body and imagination. The sound that's in my head seems to just happen! Transitioning through tone colors is smooth and immediate, and the possibilities are wide -- from very dark to sparkly and brilliant. The horn can play at a whisper volume with incredible stability, and push to extreme louds without cracking. The core is solid with wide dispersion and easy projection. Articulation is crisp and responsive, pitches are superbly even, slots are easy to target, valves are quick, fluid and feel “solid". The design and craftsmanship is at the highest level. Most importantly, it looks so cool! I have never sought the holy grail gear, but I am now a “handmade horn convert” and it certainly feels like Logan is putting some kind of sorcery into his trumpets. I am lucky to get to play one.

Ray Larsen is a trumpeter, composer, bandleader, freelancer and educator whose work traverses jazz, improvised, folk, rock and contemporary chamber settings. A rising voice in modern music, he has released over a dozen recordings as a leader or co-leader, and lent his distinctively lyrical sound to a wide variety of bands and artists from across the United States. Ray lives in Seattle where he teaches trumpet performance and improvisation on the faculty at Cornish College of the Arts.

Customer Testimonials

“The Thane Performance Series represents a new era in modern brass instrument technology. For all my styles of playing, it has made my job as a trumpet player and improviser so much easier. Thanks, Logan for making an extension of my musical voice a reality!!” - Mark Russo

Logan,
Got my horn.
Wow. It’s amazing. Truly. I don’t need long to know if a horn is a keeper or not. I LOVE this horn. I’ll be honest with you....I have a 49 Committee that I play everyday and my thought was. ..well, I guess I don’t need the Martin anymore.

The valves are incredible, and the horn just feels really nice. Already feels like home. Well done. I am lucky to get you before these become hard to get.

“I’ve spent a lot of time and money searching for that one special horn that can do it all. I’m happy to say that the Thane Performance is it! Thane trumpets give me everything I need; perfect resonance, precise tuning, crystal clear articulations, a rich tone, and the best craftsmanship on the market.

Logan, your instruments are absolute treasures. I can’t thank you enough for sharing your craft with the world.”

“Let me just tell you that this horn is INCREDIBLE. I have to force myself to put it down, seriously. You really have something here man… One thing I noticed is that the sound didn’t break no matter how hard I pushed it… I’m not a super strong player above a high G but the horn slots SO WELL all the way up to double C. All of the notes are there! Love it man, just LOVE it.”

Local Portland OR professional freelance musicians playing on their Thane Performance series Bb trumpets!

My new Thane trumpet is exactly what I had been looking for in a commercial horn; it has brilliance and punch with a solid core that does not break up when you put the pedal to the metal.
Since I’ve been playing this horn I’ve gotten very positive feedback from conductors, fellow musicians, contractors, and listeners alike.
Quality craftsmanship, reasonable price, and great service are why I highly recommend Thane trumpets.

Hi Logan. The horn is incredible. Easiest playing horn I’ve ever owned. Now the problem is I want a C to match. In due time.
— Scott S.
Hey Logan, I just wanted to let you know how happy I am with the horn!! The intonation is really REALLY good, the sound is beautiful, the valves are fantastic and the upper register really opens up easily!! It doesn’t hurt that it also looks pretty kick-ass!! It’s a real pleasure to play. Thanks Logan.

Thane Trumpets are the easiest trumpets I have ever played on.
They are so well crafted, that instead of putting my effort into making the horns do what I need them to, I can trust that the horns will respond correctly and focus all my intent on music making.
Furthermore, the pallet of color and timbre that come out of Thane Trumpets make artistic expression a dynamic, ease-filled, joy-filled experience.

Trying out Thane trumpets at 2020 NAMM in Anaheim California.

Thane trumpets are by far the best trumpets I’ve played. The tone is like a Bach on steroids! Intonation is incredible and every note slots with ease. It plays so well it lets me concentrate on the most important thing; the music. Highly recommended!
